As you know, we homeschool. I have homeschooled my children since day 1. They have never attended a public school. I remember thinking as a teenager that it would be cool to homeschool my children. Then at the time that my kids were really little, we went to a church that had many families who homeschooled. That is what got me started with homeschooling. I had many veteran homeschool moms who help guide me in the new journey. It was a blessing.
We are eclectic homeschoolers. We use a variety of methods to learn. We use computer classes, work books, lapbooks, unit studies, and many other resources. We enjoy being able to switch it up whenever something gets boring. Trust me, we switch things up often.
I think unschooling sounds awesome! Just let the kids learn when, where and how they want. I have been reading several unschooling blogs. I am so encouraged by these families. I think it is wonderful to let the children just be! I however don't feel like I would succeed at that. I do have worries that my kids wouldn't learn anything at all. I worry that I wouldn't know how to encourage the proper growth that they need. I think its simply because Unschooling is such a new concept to me.
I admire those who unschool. I can see that their children benefit greatly from it. So, I will continue to read unschooling blogs, facebook pages, etc. Maybe some day I will grow enough courage to put down the books and the schedule and let my kids learn naturally!
