Kitchen makeover

We live in an old house.   I believe it is about 87 years old.    When we bought it,  there was SO much that needed done to it.   We thought that we would be able to remodel it all in no time.  Of course,  you need money and time to do that.   We have been lacking in both of those departments.

We have done minor repairs to the house.   We have painted rooms,  fixed up the kid's bedrooms, put down some laminate flooring, and dry walled some parts of the house.   It is a work in progress.   I love my house and love when we can get some work done on it.

A few weeks ago we decided to do a makeover in the kitchen.    While do don't have the means to completely gut the kitchen right now,  I thought a little makeover to freshen it up a bit, would be perfect.

I saw on Pinterest many pins about painting the cabinets.   We have nice solid cabinets.   There were dirty and old looking though.   So I decided I wanted to paint them white.   Then I got to scheming and figuring out how I would like my kitchen to look.   We had a small budget so I had to keep that in mind.    Let me tell and show you what we did to make a HUGE difference in my kitchen.

We set out to Lowe's to see how much all of my ideas would cost.   We needed a nice oil based primer,  paint, a heavy duty cleaner, and knobs for my cabinets.   The paint and primer cost me about 60.00,  the cleaner cost me about 15.00, and the knobs cost me 33.00.    We have drop ceiling in our kitchen so we bought enough tiles to replace all of those.   We just repainted the tracks that were already there.    The ceiling tiles cost us about 90.00     We bought the cheapest stick tile floor we could find.  I believe that cost us around 45.00    The paint for my walls cost about 20.00.   The most expensive part of my kitchen was the new backsplash.   I LOVE this backsplash.    This is pretty much what we got.   We did buy ours at Lowe's though and was more costly than  this.      It cost about 185.00 to do my kitchen.    So if you add that up,  Our kitchen makeover cost us about 448.00.  Those numbers were an estimate since I don't remember the exact cost.

So we priced everything and came home to crunch numbers, try to find better deals, and to make sure that is what we wanted.    A few days later we went back to Lowe's and got all of our supplies.

The process to a while.   It was a big project, especially the cabinets.   Painting cabinets is no easy task.   It is a beautiful outcome though!  It took a few weeks to go from start to finish.   Below are some photos.

So there are some before and after photos.   This project also gave me a good chance to clean out all of my cabinets and declutter.  Its amazing how much junk one can gather.

Here are some photos of just the finished product.

In these pictures you can see ALL of it.  The new color, floor, ceiling and light, cabinets, backsplash, and knobs.   The only thing that is not done in these photos is the trim.   They are just getting repainted white.    So huge transformation huh?   And just think,  it only cost me about 450.00.    Now if I can just convince hubby to start the bathroom!!!!   :)
